Joseph Mallord William Turner - The art of Turner is distinguished from its contemporaries like John Constable by the importance of the expression and the subject of his painting. Its first canvas show picturesque scenic resulting from the 18th century. With the time Turner become more interested in the historical landscape and literary dimension of painting under the influence of traditional painters like Poussin and the Lorraine. I just love the work of this Master, a Master of the light and the abstraction; he is the precursor of the Impressionist movement.

Turner was absolutely among the artists we now classify as Romantics, but he had one foot squarely in what would come to be known as Impressionism.
