Rene Magritte PaintingsRene Magritte Paintings, real name Rene François Ghislain Magritte, was born on November 21st, 1898 in Lessines, a small French-speaking town in Belgium located in the Wallonia region. He grows in a family of three children of which he was the elder one. The childhood of Rene Magritte is however difficult and marked by the suicide of his mother who threw herself off a bridge. This loss will remain an outstanding source of creation because it is found on several Magritte's paintings, we can see in his art, indeed, rather often covered faces with a shroud in many paintings or the image of her mother who was covered with her nightdress when his body was found. Rene Magritte will then develop a certain interest for the Cubism Art Movement, and he will be especially inspired by the work of De Chirico, a contemporary Italian Painter. In Paris He will be introduce to the Surrealism Art Movement founded and directed by André Breton. He will then get acquainted with famous cotemporary artists like Paul Eluard, Joan Miro and of Salvador Dali. Rene Magritte will died of a cancer in August 15th, 1967, in Brussels, leaving behind more than a thousand works of Art. Among them, "L'espion" (1924), "L'au-delà" (1938), "Heureux présage" (1949) and "L'heureux donateur"(1966).
